Online dating tips for women over 40?

Question: Online dating tips for women over 40?

(Posted by: Grace on 2010-07-09 06:36:30)

My mother is 49, and a widow of 2yrs.. She has started using Match.com and already encountered a scammer! For some reason, it seems like all of her common sense has flown out the window and I am very concerned for her safety! Not to mention my younger siblings still live at home with her! I need some good advice and safety tips to give her! I am freaking out a little, I know, but this last incident really scared me! I would love to take her out and distract her, but she works nights so our schedules conflict a lot! I want her to be happy, but it tears me up to see my little sister confused and angry! I understand that she is lonely and that may impair her judgement a little.. just wish she wouldn't be so trusting!

You need to get her of the commputer for awhile.. She needs to get out more take her to eat or to movies.. if you happen to know single men at your job or have friends that might know of people try to hook her up on dates to keep her mind of dating and chatting sites..

Your mother is trying to find companionship and online dating is tricky. No matter what site, you will always encounter weirdos, maybe her common sense has flown out the window due to desperation of finding a companion, but you're right, she does need to be careful about brining these guys to the house when there are kids around. My advice, just ask her to be careful, not to bring these men to the house until she knows them well. Also, online dating is the thing now, people don't have the time to go out to bars and clubs to meet people, so in reality, online dating may be just as safe or scary as meeting men in bars or clubs. It is very possible to find a 'good' person online, I met my fiance online, we were dating for 3 yrs before we got engaged. Its possible, but I had to weed out alot of 'losers!!'

You should let your mum know that online dating is dangerous. Tell her to delete her account, and you and your siblings should spend more time with your mother. Your mother might feel bored at home, and wants to socialise. Take your mum out to dinner or even have a family day. Make her feel like at home, and knowing you guys are there for her.

Grace, Mom is acting like a teen again, because she feels the draw to get attention, and feel wanted by a guy. Hard to compete with that ... so .... try getting her into a gym or other activity .. single cruse .. something a bit more face to face ... internet is ok, but ya gotta remember there are a lot of players pretending to be nice... and a whole lot of fat guy naked eating cheetos just surfing for women to "bond "with. Talk to mom ... make some "Girl Time " with her ... arm her with your knowledge. Good Luck.
