I've been out of high school for 40 years and it's quite a different world now. But I know this hasn't changed and never will. The girls and women who have attracted me haven't been the prettiest or the most popular (yes, I'm a guy. I needed a user name and so I took the name of my cat. He's named Hoppy because he hops like a rabbit). What attracts me is the quality of the soul. But quality of the soul means different things to different people. Mostly, I guess, it means being yourself. That's difficult in the teen years, yes. Because it is said that when we are teens we really don't know who we are. Well, here's a well guarded secret: You can be as old as I am - 58 - and still not know who you are. We are never in a state of "became. " We are always in a state of "becoming. " So my only advise is that you be yourself and recognize that by the time we are 14 - 15, we are pretty much who we are, but we will continue to make little adjustment's until the day we die. This doesn't give us the right to act one way today and another way tomorrow. No. I do have other advise. All around the world the Golden Rule is the same. Treat others as you want to be treated. That can never do you wrong. Being kind goes a lot further than being popular. Being kind, actually, is one of the things that make you popular. |
